How to delete or disable your account

You can disable or delete your Fluxer account in your account settings. Deleting it starts a 14-day grace period, and signing back in cancels it.

You can disable or delete your account under "Account" in "User settings".

Deleting your account

An account that owns a community can't be deleted until you transfer that community to someone else or delete it. A grace period starts when you choose to delete your account, and you can cancel the deletion during that period. After your account has been deleted, your data is handled as section 7.3 of our privacy policy says, and our article on data retention explains which records we keep for longer and why.

Messages

Before you delete your account, you can delete your messages with "Delete my messages" under "Privacy" in "User settings", and export your data first if you want a copy. Messages you don't delete stay visible where you sent them, but they're no longer linked to your account, and you can't delete them once your account is gone.

Messages in places you've left

"Delete my messages" can also delete only your messages in communities and group DMs that you've left or been removed from, including ones that banned you. To do that, choose "Only places I can't access anymore" when you start it. The deletion runs in the background and can't be undone once it starts, and Fluxer sends you a DM when it's done.

Disabling your account

Disabling your account works the way section 6.1 of our terms describes, and if you change your mind afterward, you can undo it by signing in again.

Inactive accounts

An account with no sign-ins or other activity for 2 years may be scheduled for deletion, and we email the account's address first. If you then sign in, you keep the account.

Visionary accounts are never deleted for inactivity, and accounts with an Operator Pass aren't either. For legal and accounting reasons, the Operator Pass rule comes with the pass and can change like the other things in section 3 of the Operator Pass terms.

Instances can also choose to delete accounts that were never finished.

  • An account with no way back in, like one started with only a name and no email, password or passkey yet, is deleted by default 24 hours after its last session ends or after 90 days without use. You can add an email to keep it.
  • An account with no date of birth is deleted after 7 days without use by default.

Accounts of people under the minimum age in their country follow separate rules.
